Carpenter Ants in the spring

As spring finally arrives in Rhode Island Carpenter Ants are beginning to show up in droves. Many people are experiencing activity in their homes. When the weather is still cool outside with no sign of ants outside, this is a clear indication that there is a carpenter ant nest on the interior of the home. Carpenter Ants can do some significant damage to your home. Many people see activity every spring inside but as the weather warms up these ants will start foraging for food outside and it appears that the problem inside is gone. In reality the nest is still in the wall, attic or other out of the way place and it is growing. The more an ant colony grows, the more damage it will do. It is important to target the nest to eliminate it. All over the counter household ant treatment do is create a barrier to keep the ants away from the area sprayed. This probably won't help since the ants will start foraging for food outside. It is strongly recommended that a professional exterminator treat the source.
